Hello, my name is Christie Chu. I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist in California and a licensed professional counselor in Texas. I'm a mother of 11-year-old twins, and have a great deal of life experience dealing with many of the issues my patients face.
My approach
I use a client-centered approach along with cognitive behavioral techniques, and intergenerational, family approaches. I also use solution-focused approaches and reality-testing work with relational violence. I am accepting of all sexual orientations and identification, and have worked with HIV-positive patients in the past.
My focus
I work with clients with mood disorders, including anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. I work with couples dealing with infertility, relational violence, child abuse, and LGBTQ issues. In addition, I work with school issues and I am a credentialed school counselor.
My communication style
I use direct communication and strive to be completely honest with clients. I will be supportive and understanding while working through challenging issues.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was always interested in psychology and came from a family that struggled with many issues, including divorce, and some abuse. After receiving a bachelor's degree I wanted to work with young children. I saw the master's degree and childhood element and then went on to complete my clinical counseling license. After spending a great deal of time working in schools, I sought my credential in school counseling. I've also experienced infertility firsthand, and am a mother of twins.
My goals for you
Goal setting is done in collaboration with clients. Clients will identify what goals are important to them and I will assist with helping make a plan to reach those goals.
My first session with you
My first session will include intake, assessment, and time to get to know each other as well as to hear about the problem you're facing.
