Hello, I am Rhonda Smillie, M.Ed, LPCC practicing in CA. I approach therapy with a curious mind and an open heart. I incorporate many modalities to help get to the issues at hand. I focus on relationships, with self, others, and the community. This includes anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and addictive disorders.
My approach
I approach therapy with curiosity and nonjudgment. I find that utilizing cognitive behavioral, mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy, relations frame, and unconditional regard for my clients has led to success with therapy.
My focus
My clientele is usually dealing with some levels of depression, anxiety, relationship issues, mood disorders, and addictive behaviors.
My communication style
My clients often express how easy it is to talk through things with me. I create a safe space both physically and emotionally for my clients.
My journey to mental healthcare
I believe most therapists become therapists because they see loved ones hurting and want to help, I am no different. I believe therapy is the only instruction manual we have on what it means to be a human today.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting with the client in mind. The goals have to be realistic and obtainable. Through discussion with the client, we can pick what can be realistically done between sessions. The goal is to achieve some level of success (follow through) so it becomes more natural to goal set.
My first session with you
During the first session, the client can expect a lot of listening from me. I want to create a space where one feels very comfortable and is able to be vulnerable. I will spend time on how therapy works and give permission for the client to disagree with me.
