My name is Karen Anderson and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). My practice is built around a strong belief in human resilience and the intrinsic capacity in each of us to overcome the challenges life brings. I have a passion for women’s reproductive and mental health issues and have over 35 years of experience in this area.
My approach
I use Cognitive Behavioral and Strength-Based techniques in my work and provide a warm, compassionate, and empathic environment to individuals as an important way to make discussing difficult issues safe and build trust. I also use Trauma Informed Care as a way to explore what may be at the core of your challenges.
My focus
I specialize in Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorders, working with women experiencing pregnancy loss, infertility, birth trauma, or facing adoption or surrogacy. I am skilled in coaching and guiding parents as they adjust to their new roles and helping women explore and build their core identities, self-worth, and self-esteem. Additionally, I have experience treating clients dealing with grief, trauma, new or chronic medical issues, mood disorders, and other life stressors and transitions.
My communication style
I am open-minded, flexible, and collaborative in my approach. Together we will explore the issues you want to focus on that will promote your growth and healing. At the core of what I provide is an unending faith in your ability to transform the way you live your life.
My journey to mental healthcare
I find working with people and helping them find their strengths and realize their desires is incredibly rewarding. I enjoy helping people on their journey of self-discovery and believe that this is the work I was meant to do.
My goals for you
I believe that you will take the lead in establishing therapeutic goals and we will discuss how to work together toward the outcome you are focused on.
My first session with you
Our first session will be focused on exploring how you are feeling and what brought you to therapy. We will talk about what you are hoping to work on and any specific goals you may have in mind. I think you will find that I am easy to talk to and a session with me is a safe environment where you can be vulnerable sharing about yourself.
