My name is Karry Friedman and I am Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in Los Angeles, California. My approach to therapy is eclectic, as I believe that every individual has their own path, and experiences their own journey in a different way. I implement various modalities of therapy to fit the needs of my clients.
My approach
There are multiple theoretical approaches that I use in my work with my clients. However, I do find that client-centered, strength-based as well as, evidence-based approaches, such as CBT and DBT are very effective across a continuum of various problems presented in therapy.
My focus
I enjoy working with adults and elder adult clients. I have extensive experience treating clients suffering from Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, life transition challenges, as well as women's issues.
My communication style
My communication style is supportive and collaborative. I believe a truly skilled therapist listens very carefully, before providing feedback. I provide a calm, safe environment where my clients feel heard and supported.
My journey to mental healthcare
I am driven by the emotionally rewarding nature of being a therapist. I enjoy supporting individuals in their life journey, as I believe no journey is without a challenge. Life ebbs and flows, and often presents hurdles in our paths that are difficult to manage. I see being a therapist as an honor and a privilege because someone is allowing you to be a part of their journey. Seeing clients work through their challenges and feel empowered, is what drives me to be a therapist.
My goals for you
I set individualized goals with my clients collaboratively. I gather information that reflects their needs and challenges, and we work together to set desired goals and work toward them. I provide guidance and support in helping my clients reach the goals we create together.
My first session with you
During the first session, I engage in information gathering with my clients to ascertain their needs from our future sessions. I answer any questions clients may have in order to provide a safe, transparent environment, as well as to begin building rapport.
