My name is Maryanne McKowen and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with over 30 years of experience. I specialize in helping individuals navigate depression, anxiety, life balance, and emotional resilience through a strength-based, holistic approach that incorporates cognitive therapy techniques.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is centered on creating a collaborative and supportive environment where clients feel empowered to explore and overcome their challenges. I frequently utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness techniques, focusing on building emotional resilience and fostering a sense of calm and well-being.
My focus
I love to work with clients who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, or emotions related to feeling overwhelmed by life in general as well as life-changing events such as a job, grief, or mental illness in a family member. I also work with mild trauma caused by adverse events in adulthood.
My communication style
I create a warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental space. My communication style is direct yet compassionate, ensuring that clients feel heard and understood while also being gently guided towards achieving their goals.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist began with a deep desire to help others navigate the complexities of life with greater ease and resilience. Over the years, I’ve been driven by a commitment to supporting individuals and families in finding balance, peace, and well-being, especially during challenging times. My experiences have shaped my holistic and strength-based approach, allowing me to guide my clients with both empathy and expertise.
My goals for you
Goal setting in therapy is a collaborative process where I work closely with my clients to identify their desired outcomes and create a clear, actionable plan to achieve them. I believe in setting realistic, achievable goals that align with each client’s values and life circumstances.
My first session with you
During the first session, clients can expect a welcoming and open conversation where we’ll discuss their current concerns, explore their history, and begin to identify key areas for growth and change. I take the time to understand each client’s unique situation and ensure they leave with a sense of hope and a plan for moving forward.
