Thanks for stopping by! I'm Richard Fontenot, trained in Narrative Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Neuroscience for Business at MIT Sloan School of Management, and Clinical Psychology, and my license is in Marriage and Family Therapy. I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Gottman (for couples), and Psychodynamic approaches to working with clients in a warm atmosphere with unconditional positive regard.
My approach
I see patients who want to improve their marriages and are in the middle of a relationship crisis. They see that their relationship has changed and are interested in making their relationship and lives better. I prep individuals for marriage counseling when both partners are not ready to meet with a couples therapist and talk about what changes are needed.
My focus
I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) approaches to improve communication and anxious reactions by explaining and navigating the calibration of your emotional system by integrating the left and right modes of the brain by working through belief systems to improve your self-esteem and relationships. I'll help you move from a place of stuck repetitive negative thoughts and beliefs to a more realistic picture of events that are sometimes unseen under the influence of conflict, arguments, disagreements, stress, or sadness.
My communication style
I utilize an open communication platform of CBT and Gottman styles of working with you to gain a deeper exploration of yourself and your relationships.
My journey to mental healthcare
Prior to becoming a therapist, I gained experience as Managing Director of a real estate investment firm, and as an independent film producer. I was able to command the position of a producer because I garnered high-stakes experience as a producer’s assistant to Academy Award and Emmy Award winners (working on Billion $ revenue teams) and that has allowed me to understand the demands of success while balancing creativity, career, family, and relationship goals.
My goals for you
I work with clients to discover their path to optimum health by bringing into light the process and benefits of introspection from discussing events of hindsight and foresight to developing a personal plan that best meets your challenges.
My first session with you
Discussing prior therapeutic outcomes and experiences that worked in the past, conducting a bio-psycho-social history, and learning your expectations.
