Hello, My name is Donna Cohen Cretcher and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I believe life is a journey and everyone has their personal challenges. I enjoy the experience of understanding you and helping you. I am an active participant in sessions by asking questions to fully understand who you are and how best to support you. I individualize your treatment based on what you want, need, and who you are. I see myself as a coach to support you in obtaining your goals and a sense of wellness in your life.
My approach
I utilize client-centered therapy as a foundation. I want the client to feel comfortable and know that they can direct the process. Based on the client's needs, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Systems Theory, Psychodynamic, Addiction therapy, and other complementary modalities to support the goals of the client.
My focus
I have worked with clients of areas of life. I am comfortable treating people with all experiences and backgrounds. I am best at relationships, depression, anxiety, OCD, addiction, codependency, aging, and health issues.
My communication style
I try to keep the tone casual and caring. I like to use humor when appropriate because it is a strength to be able to laugh at life and ourselves. I will self-disclose when I think it will be useful as an example or a demonstration of humanness.
My journey to mental healthcare
At a young age, I was exposed to mental health issues and learned the struggle that is involved in being well. I knew I had the ability to empathize and care for others and I wanted a career that had purpose and meaning. Being a therapist allows me to use my gifts and help others. One reason I love this work is that I am allowed the gift of knowing others in their best version.
My goals for you
I believe in letting the client set the goals as I am a patient-centered therapist. I can suggest goals, but I want to know why the client is in therapy and what their expectations are.
My first session with you
The first session is "a get to know each other" session. I know how important it is for someone to feel comfortable, so I try to be casual and kind. I pay close attention to the client to ensure their comfort as they share their story. I try to provide some feedback or tools so that they never leave a session empty-handed.
