My name is Josephine Majorana and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Northern CA working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults of all ages and have a specific background/training in trauma work, behavioral therapy, non-profit community-based outreach, and hospice/end-of-life planning.
My approach
I make every effort to tailor my treatment approach based on the unique needs and experiences of each client. I most often utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and mindfulness-based interventions to help clients understand and heal from traumatic experiences in their lives. I'm also interested in exploring attachment issues that stem from early childhood experiences and utilizing ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) science in my treatment approach.
My focus
I work with adults of all ages, with a particular focus on both younger and older adults who are struggling with the life transitions that are common during these specific phases of life. I work closely with my clients to help them prepare for and navigate these life transitions, with a deep respect for the expertise that each person holds regarding their own experiences and needs. Together, we will challenge negative thought patterns, examine interpersonal relationships, and identify sources of stress and suffering in an effort to create positive behavioral and emotional change.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, accommodating, and strengths-based. I am encouraging feedback throughout the therapeutic process, and view therapy as a collaboration where we work together to identify goals and lay the foundational groundwork for change. My ultimate goal is to hold a safe and supportive space for you to talk about and process any difficult emotions or experiences that are keeping you stuck in your life.
My journey to mental healthcare
My interest in therapy began when I was in high school and my own family was supported through a difficult time by a family therapist. This help was invaluable and allowed me and my loved ones to heal and move forward from trauma. I knew that I wanted to offer that same support and assistance to others who are struggling, and decided to pursue a career in social work. I feel it is a great honor to bear witness to a myriad of human experiences and to be a small part of another's journey through life.
My goals for you
After trust has been established within the therapeutic relationship, we will focus on outlining a few goals that feel meaningful for you to work on throughout treatment. I assist my clients in developing SMART goals (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound), and utilize various assessment tools to track progress over time.
My first session with you
During our first session, I will focus on listening to your story and understanding what has led you to reach out for support at this time. My goal is to gather as much information as possible by asking clarifying questions, as this will allow me to best support you in your goals moving forward. I also allow time for any clarification, questions, or concerns you may have at this time.
