Hi there, I'm Nicole!

My name is Nicole Shrieves and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the State of California. My pronouns are she/her/hers. I provide individual therapy with adults who experience symptoms of depression and anxiety stemming from trauma, systematic oppression, ancestral and generational wounds, racial injustices, domestic violence, sex trafficking, grief and loss, aging, and other life experiences/stressors. I am LGBTQIA+ friendly.

My approach

My therapeutic approach is based on you, the individual. It is person-centered and trauma-informed. I believe that multiple therapeutic modalities may be used to support you on your healing journey while understanding there are also modalities that may not be appropriate for BIPOC.

My focus

I work with women, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, survivors of domestic violence and sex trafficking, first/second-generation immigrants, and older adults who are experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, Acute Stress, and PTSD.

My communication style

My communication style is calm, empathic, and easygoing to allow for ease in sharing your thoughts, feelings, experiences, and more. It is important to create a safe and comfortable space for anything that may arise in the therapy session.

My journey to mental healthcare

I always knew I wanted to help others since I was a child. Initially, I thought the best way to do so was to become a medical doctor. While in the first year of my pre-med undergraduate program, I realized I did not like the sight of blood. Luckily, I was taking an elective psychology class that I enjoyed and switched my major. While in graduate school, I began to take note that it appeared that systematic oppression may be a cause of mental health symptoms and therapeutic theories/approaches did not often take that into account, specifically with BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities. This furthered my eagerness in wanting to provide therapy and create a safe space for people in these communities.

My first session with you

You can expect a warm and welcoming smile, along with a casual approach, as we begin to build rapport and identify therapeutic goals you would like to accomplish.
