My name is Joel Gamache. I am an LMFT in California, working with teens, adults, and couples in a psychodynamic approach.
My approach
I use a combination of body-based therapies, self-compassion, attachment theory, and object relations theory.
My focus
I specialize in traumatic stress, resolving childhood experiences, panic/anxiety attacks, thoughts of death, marital conflict, and relational communication.
My communication style
I typically ask about what is currently happening in people's lives and use that to explore unresolved experiences in the past.
My journey to mental healthcare
When the war in Iraq started I thought the way I could serve my country was to work with people who came back with PTSD. It was a long journey, but wonderful, and I learned I love more than working with just this group of people. I especially love working with couples too!
My goals for you
I want clients to take control of their goals for therapy and we talk about how they will know therapy did what they needed it to do for them.
My first session with you
The first session is easy. I try not to dig into the difficult things too much. I want to begin to build trust and get to know each other.
