Our behaviors have worked at some point in our lives, but they may now be obsolete. However, the deeply entrenched grooves of behavioral patterns have been established and we can't easily get out of them. I believe the goal of therapy is to facilitate flexibility, adaptability--evolvability.
My approach
In a compassionate, non-judgmental manner, I incorporate challenge and novelty. Fear and desire are two sides of the same coin\; when you avoid your fears, you are left with no desire. On the other hand, desire means to fear. So we will work on a movement towards fear and produce a meaningful life driven by courage and values via acceptance of both sides of the same coin.
My focus
I am willing to see individuals, couples, and families. My specialties include addiction, anger management, anxiety, depression, family conflict, impulsivity, relationship issues, trauma and PTSD, psychosis, obsessive-compulsive (OCD), men's issues, and mood disorders.
My communication style
As we see through our behaviors, rather than looking at them, we are often so immersed in our lifestyle that we are unaware of its counterproductivity. We are self-deceived, unaware, unconscious. My communication style aims to expand, integrate, and add experience to your awareness so that you are no longer limited and bounded by outdated psychological patterns stemming from your past.
My goals for you
We want to increase your behavioral repertoire so that you can pick and choose which behavior is most effective in a given context, rather than repeatedly attempting to fit a square peg into a round hole. Avoidance is often the culprit--you steer the ship in only one direction, away from pain, and the result is you never quite make it to shore, adrift in the sea of life. My goal is to help you overcome this avoidance and live a fulfilling life.
