Pamela Mather, MA, LMFT, RN. I am a seasoned professional with education in psychology and nursing. I have been a therapist for over 20 years. My approach to therapy is client-centered, working with clients to identify what they need help with and making a map to finding the answers. I seek to empower my clients with knowledge of strategies they can learn and depend on to assist them as well as gain insight into what triggers them to feel unempowered.
My approach
My approach to therapy is one of empowerment, enlightenment, and changing the way we think about an issue to make it manageable. While many clients bring issues from their past that are bothering them in the present, my approach to that and any trauma is to let them live in the past and cope in the present with renewal.
My focus
I work mostly with adults. I work with older adults and any adult who is transitioning through a life change. I work with first responders and healthcare professionals suffering from compassion fatigue and burnout. I work with clients facing medical problems they must learn to adjust to. I work with clients who are grieving losses.
My communication style
My communication style is open communication where clients feel comfortable expressing themselves and exploring what they want for growth and change. I facilitate opportunities for clients to find their strengths and goals for what they hope to achieve in treatment.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was an emergency room nurse for many years and in that capacity, I saw many people coming to the ER with problems that clearly would be best helped in a therapeutic setting. I began to see that my calling was to be in that other setting where I could help clients get through the issues that were hurting them and help them become informed, insightful, and resilient in the ability to develop skills to cope independently.
My goals for you
Clients state their own goals and I will assist them in finding ways to articulate their goals and design a plan in treatment for measuring their achievement. I empower clients to set concrete goals and together we will build a plan of strategies to achieve them.
My first session with you
Intake sessions focus on gathering demographics and a history of events leading to them seeking therapy and explaining the role of the client and their responsibilities and the role of the therapist responsibilities, limits of confidentiality, and HIPAA.
