I am Janet Distefan, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Ph.D. in Behavioral Epidemiology. I provide comprehensive clinical care for a wide range of mental health issues, taking a collaborative and strengths-based approach.
My approach
My clinical practice draws from cognitive-behavioral, object relations, and attachment theories, as well as mindfulness-based stress reduction. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your unique needs, circumstances, and goals.
My focus
I work with individuals, couples, families, teens, and pre-teens struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship difficulties, and women's issues. My aim is to provide you with compassionate, effective care to help you heal and thrive.
My communication style
My communication style is warm, non-judgmental, and collaborative. I strive to create a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to make positive changes. We'll work together as a team, with open and honest dialogue.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to mental healthcare began with a deep desire to help others overcome challenges and lead more fulfilling lives. I pursued degrees in psychology and behavioral health to gain the knowledge and skills to make a meaningful difference. Now, with over 15 years of clinical experience, I remain passionate about supporting my clients' well-being and growth.
My goals for you
My goal is to help you gain insight, develop coping skills, improve your relationships, and make sustainable changes for enhanced mental health and life satisfaction. I want to empower you with the tools and self-awareness to navigate life's challenges with greater ease and resilience.
My first session with you
In our first session, we'll discuss what brought you to therapy and collaborate to identify your unique treatment goals. I'll gather some background information and answer any questions you may have about the therapeutic process. Most importantly, we'll begin building a trusting alliance to facilitate your healing and growth. I aim for you to leave our first meeting feeling heard, hopeful, and confident about our work together.
