Hi there, I'm Mercedes! My name is Mercedes Borrayo and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Mira Loma, California, and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I am bilingual Spanish speaking and I work with adolescents, young adults, and older adults, specializing in anxiety, depression, and stress, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Narrative Therapy to help my clients find their way and start feeling like themselves again.
My approach
My approach to therapy is completely dependent on the needs of my clients. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy to help my clients add to their toolbox of coping skills and to gather a deeper understanding of where they are at; in order for them to meet their goals while finding relief of their symptoms and/or behaviors.
My focus
I have found that my approach is a good match with adolescents, young adults, and older adults who are dealing with the various challenges of daily life. Some of these challenges arise from anxiety, depression, and phase-of-life concerns. We will work together as a team to help you learn additional coping skills that will support you through the various symptoms and/or behaviors of anxiety, depression, and stress.
My communication style
My communication style is of unconditional positive regard to help my clients feel like they are not alone and they have someone on their side. I am calm, understanding with a warm and welcoming demeanor where you will feel listened to and understood.
My journey to mental healthcare
I wanted to be a therapist because I wanted to give people a voice, people who felt that they did not have a voice. Being an immigrant myself I often felt that I did not have a voice and wanted to help others see themselves. I enjoy helping others find their voice and enjoy seeing their growth.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is that the goals are what my clients want as they know themselves best and they know what they want to focus on. We will work together to set the goals, as the goals are behavioral so that you can see your improvements and so will your family.
My first session with you
During our first session, it will be to gather information in order to understand what brought you to therapy and how we will work together. During this first session, I will ask a lot of questions and I will also answer some questions for you. I find that it is possible to also provide you with some tools prior to ending the session. This session is important for you to begin to know me and for myself to also begin to know you. Everybody is different so it is not a one-size-fits-all, each session is unique just for you.
