My name is Ciana and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), born and raised in Los Angeles. My experience lies with teens, adults, and families, including those involved with DCFS. I use a person-centered, trauma-informed approach to help others strengthen their skills, improve coping strategies, process trauma, and rebuild relationships.
My approach
I use a psychodynamic form of therapy, that is free-flowing, trauma-informed and solution-focused. I work well with people looking to process life experiences and create practical steps for change. I value empathy and respect, which means I tend to ask more questions so that I can best understand. I spend more time listening and less time asserting my opinion. I like to offer alternative perspectives rather than give directives, and consider myself to have a relaxed tone and relatable demeanor.
My focus
I work with clients who struggle with a myriad of problems. Common struggles include overthinking, difficulty concentrating, low self-esteem, relationship challenges, and lack of motivation -- to name a few. My interests, experiences, and training have led me to specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, self-esteem, relationships, and teenage issues. For many clients, these problems overlap and can feel exceptionally overwhelming. You might feel like things are unmanageable, or maybe you don't feel like yourself anymore. The good news is that you are capable of growth and change.

I tend to create a casual, friendly environment that feels safe to speak freely and encourages self-reflection.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a therapist because I felt called to help others -- specifically those affected by the foster care system. However, during my time working at a local hospital and senior center, I saw that mental health needs extended far beyond our youth. After working with the geriatric population for two years, I followed through on my calling and began working with foster youth and teens in need of mental health services. I worked as an Intensive Services Foster Care therapist for two years during which I became certified in TF-CBT, MAP, Nurturing Parenting Program, and Motivational Interviewing. These skills led me to specialize in trauma, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and ADHD. I've learned that these problems affect people of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences. My hope is to help others find healing, peace, and fulfillment.
My goals for you
In the first couple sessions, it's important to set measurable goals that both guide the direction of future sessions and can be used to track progress objectively. I believe it's essential these goals are set by the client (compared to a therapist that creates goals on a client's behalf). This way, I can specifically support each person in the areas most important to them.
My first session with you
During the first session, it's important for me to collect a general history so I can gain insight into the factors that have influenced you and your needs. However, I also use this time to build rapport and create a comfortable, judgment-free space.
