My name is Teresa A. Kellstrom and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist, who has been practicing since 2009. I split my time between private practice and working in a non-profit agency. I have experience working with all ages of clients, particularly adult individuals dealing with overwhelming life stressors and adjustments. I welcome the opportunity to work with you!
My approach
My approach to therapy is client-centered, as my focus is on giving you the insight and tools necessary to help you in your life, providing you with a safe, judgment-free zone for your therapy sessions. I mostly work with my clients utilizing CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), so that you can get the most out of your time in therapy.
My focus
I have experience working with clients of all ages, providing individual, couples, and family therapy to those who need and want to improve their lives. My passion is working with survivors of domestic violence or those in troubled relationships. It is my goal to give you the tools to be happy and productive in your life!
My communication style
In my therapy sessions, I provide a safe, judgment-free arena for you to be able to express yourself openly. I believe in being direct with my clients so that they can get the most out of their counseling experience.
My journey to mental healthcare
In my mid-thirties, I took a look at my career and decided that I wanted something more. I had always had a passion for helping others (and still do) so I decided to return to school to complete my master's degree, and get into the field of counseling psychology. It was a challenge due to the fact that I had a full-time job and a family, but the struggle was worth the ultimate goal that I achieved!
My goals for you
Setting goals is the best way to move forward in a positive manner, without looking back on past errors in judgment or mistakes. I will help you figure out where you want and need to be in life.
My first session with you
Our first therapy session will consist of time spent getting to know you and gathering some background history so that we can continue to move forward, and I won't waste your time by asking the same questions over and over. I generally do a lot of note-taking in the first session to serve this purpose and reflect back on these initial notes each session.
