Hello, my name is BRIAN M. ABELL, LCSW. I have over 30 years of experience in the field of mental health. In these years, I have held a variety of positions that have contributed to the way I approach therapy today. A couple of things that have remained consistent, whether in an entry level staff position in residential treatment or as a Clinical Director, has been a major desire to help others and a gift for building rapport and strong working relationships with people of all ages and backgrounds.
My approach
My main modalities include but are not limited to Behaviorism, CBT, DBT, Solution Focused, Harm Reduction, Psychodynamic, Nurtured Heart, etc... Additionally, in providing therapy, I try to tailor the experience to the individual, family, or couple I am working with.
My focus
I am comfortable with almost anyone and any situation. However, I do not work with eating disorders or severe brain injuries.
My communication style
I pride myself in providing help in a realistic and "down to earth" way that employs the use of professional and personal self-disclosure, as well as communicating in a way that conveys unconditional positive regard.
My journey to mental healthcare
Long and interesting. I have always had a large amount of empathy and took that along with some of my own struggles and less than favorable life experiences and situations and turned them into a career.
