Hi there, I'm Carolette!

Hi there, I’m Carol! My name is Carolette King, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Riverside, California, and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults and adolescents and specialize in anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, self-esteem, grief and loss, chronic illness, and the mental and emotional impact of racial disparities.

My approach

Rather than adopt one approach for all individuals and issues, I draw from a variety of methods to create a culturally competent, tailored treatment plan for each client. My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Strength-based therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, as these modalities help build a shared understanding of my client’s reality, emphasize qualities and skills that are already present, and allow us to work together to move you closer to your goals.

My focus

I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for adolescents and young adults who may be dealing with the challenges of life transitions and social pressures. This often takes the form of anxiety, depression, stress, and low self-esteem. Because Black and Brown clients often face racial and ethnic disparities in mental health care, I also specialize in issues that impact these communities

My communication style

My treatment style is warm, open, encouraging, and direct. I consider myself an active therapist, combining experience, education, creativity, and a sense of humor with a down-to-earth approach to counseling to build a relationship of trust and respect with all my clients.

My journey to mental healthcare

I grew up in the foster care system and always knew I wanted to give back. My social worker had the insight to put me in therapy at an early age, and If it weren’t for my own amazing therapist, I don’t know where I would be! I began my career with CASA, as an advocate for children in the foster care system. My love for helping vulnerable populations led me to pursue my Master's and a clinical license so that I would be able to turn my purpose into my career. I love being a therapist, I truly do it for the outcome, not the income. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am honored to support & empower you in that journey.

My goals for you

My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This starts by building rapport and trust between us and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. Over time, we’ll work together to set goals and track your progress

My first session with you

Our first session may not be what you expect or hope for. It may feel quite awkward. The purpose of a thorough intake assessment is to provide a strong foundation. This strong foundation allows me to gain insight into each client’s situation and needs, make an accurate diagnosis, and develop an effective, personalized treatment plan. The first session is about us building an initial connection and helping me get a sense of where we should go from there. Everyone is different, and I like to listen first before assuming.
