My name is Miwa Taylor, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California. I am a Southern California native and have been providing mental health services in the greater Los Angeles and Central Coast areas for the past 9 years. I received my master’s degree in social work from California State University, Los Angeles, and my bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Black Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
My approach
I use client-centered therapy, which means I follow your lead and we focus on areas in your life that you want to work on. I integrate cognitive-behavioral interventions, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness in my practice, but I mainly use interventions that are most helpful to you as an individual. I believe in a holistic approach to supporting clients in restoring their mental, emotional, social, spiritual, and physical health.
My focus
I have a wide range of experience providing individual therapy for adults, college students, children, and forensic, and substance use disorder populations. I’ve worked in family therapy agencies, college counseling centers, school districts, and higher level-of-care facilities. I work with clients who are experiencing anxiety and depression and want to improve their overall quality of life.
My communication style
I like to provide a safe space to process life transitions, relationship issues, grief and loss, self-esteem, self-love, religion and spirituality, alcohol and substance use, and navigation of cultural and racial identities. I acknowledge that a lot of our current struggles have a lot to do with our past. I use empathy and a warm approach to help build a safe space to process what is going on in your life. Sometimes we need help managing anxiety, depression, stressors of life, or motivation to make healthy changes and I would like to walk with you on that journey.
