Hi there, I'm Pat!

My name is Pat Pearson, RN, LMFT. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Pagosa Springs, CO, and working with clients in CA statewide via telehealth. I work with children, teens, and adults. I specialize in trauma, stress, and grief, using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Brainspotting, Client-Centered Therapy, and Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

My approach

My approach to therapy varies on the needs of each client I work with. I frequently start with Client-Centered Therapy and after getting to know you and your preferences will move into the therapeutic approach that best fits your needs for healing and comfort level.

My focus

Having worked in the medical field as an RN for 25 years (stress, compassion fatigue, and grief) I easily connect with all medical professionals and nursing students. I connect with parents and kids having raised 3 children, (adopted, step, and biological.) I connect with young and old who have experienced natural disasters having gone through the Paradise Camp Fire, in 2018. I connect with grief: loss of family, friends, relationships, and pets.

My communication style

My communication style is calm, non-judgmental, and friendly. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking to me and know it is safe to talk about whatever is keeping them awake at night. There is nothing you can talk about that I cannot hold a space for.

My journey to mental healthcare

I decided to become a therapist after retiring from nursing. I helped people heal their bodies and now I help people heal their minds, spirits, and hearts. Providing a safe space for people to talk out loud, in an environment they are comfortable in, can be very healing.

My goals for you

My approach to goal setting with clients starts with what you want to achieve in our time together. We will determine if you have a single goal or several, in order of importance, and where you feel most comfortable starting. Goals can be added or removed; you are in control of your therapy.

My first session with you

What you can expect from our first session together is for us to spend time talking about what brought you into therapy and the present symptoms keeping you from living your best life. Our first session is about us building an initial connection and helps me get a sense of which therapeutic approach is going to bring you the most relief as soon as possible.
