Hello! My name is Rosanna Jimeno and I am a Clinical Psychologist. I have been licensed for 15 years and have worked in a community mental health setting for all of this time. My experience has given me insight into a range of individuals, their unique struggles, and their indomitable strengths. I strive to honor each person’s individuality while working with them to help them feel better and reach their goals.
My approach
I begin with a humanistic approach to ensure that I understand the unique individual’s emotions and life as best as I can. I then work with the client to see what has been helpful before or has not been helpful so we can create a plan together. From there, I often use interventions from a range of therapies including CBT, DBT, Narrative Therapy, and the Somatic Experiencing Model.
My focus
My focus is typically individual sessions with children, adolescents, and adults who are experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and the sequelae of trauma. Quite often, I work with individuals experiencing OCD-related disorders to help decrease their compulsions and their distress. Times of transition are often anxiety-provoking, and it’s been my honor to guide people through these challenging times. I believe that mental illness touches everyone we know in our communities. I support those whose lives are being significantly affected by the mental illnesses or substance abuse of loved ones.
My communication style
I feel I create a non-judgmental, empathic, authentic, and validating safe space where clients feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings without fear of criticism or judgment. I believe in collaborating with clients to set goals, develop strategies, and problem-solve while respecting their autonomy and agency. I value creating a sense of stability and calm, helping clients feel more relaxed and focused. I welcome feedback and questions at every point in the therapeutic process. By establishing this tone, I aim to foster a trusting and supportive therapeutic relationship.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a mental health therapist has been a deeply rewarding growth experience. I feel privileged to learn a client’s story and witness who they are as a person, and where they’re going. It all started when I was a young adolescent with my personal experience with mental health. I was lucky enough to find expert support at the right time. This opened my life up to understanding the importance of emotions, and the power of expression and communication. It made me listen to others differently. I realized that I had a passion for supporting others and understanding human behavior. I went on to study psychology in my undergraduate and then moved to Los Angeles to get my doctorate in psychology. Throughout my journey, I've had the privilege of working with a diverse population and have received supervision from wise mentors who have expanded my perspective. I continue to participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices. It's an honor to be a mental health therapist, and I look forward to continuing this meaningful work.
My goals for you
Goal-setting will be a collaborative process between you and me to help focus treatment and enhance progress. We will identify your motivations and reasons for seeking therapy, and begin to explore and understand your values, strengths, and challenges. This will help us define objectives and prioritize goals, focusing on the most important ones to tackle first. We will regularly review and revise goals as needed, celebrating progress and adjusting course if necessary. By following these steps, we will move towards setting meaningful goals, increasing motivation, and tracking progress toward a more rewarding life.
My first session with you
Clients should expect a warm and inviting atmosphere in which I will ask a series of questions for the purpose of getting to know them, and beginning the therapeutic alliance and journey. Clients will be given space and encouraged to ask questions regarding the structure of sessions and my therapeutic approach.
