Hi there, I'm Felicia!

My name is Felicia Martin and I have a PhD in Clinical Psychology and am a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist. I am a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional and have been working with individuals, couples, and families for more than 25 years. I have helped people navigate through difficult times and find a path toward a meaningful, peaceful, and fulfilling life.

My approach

I am a certified Dialectical Behavioral Treatment Professional (DBT) but also use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused approaches depending on the needs of the client

My focus

I work with all types of clients but most are having difficulty navigating relationships with spouses, family, and friends. I have also worked routinely with individuals and couples who have experienced infidelity in their relationships as well as those who are having difficulty with a transition in their lives (move, job change, empty nest, retirement, divorce, etc). I have treated all types of conditions but have most often worked with those struggling with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, grief, trauma and those adjusting to changes in their lives

My communication style

I try to create a supportive and nurturing environment for each session but also challenge each individual to help them make changes to achieve their best possible life.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have always been interested in being a therapist since high school when I found myself listening to others' struggles and helping them navigate problems. My formal path toward being a licensed therapist started when I worked in a group home for abused children. The initial years of my career were focused on abused children and their families as well as those experiencing domestic violence. As my own children got older, I went back to school to pursue my Ph.D. After that time, I expanded the populations I work with to include those with severe chronic mental illness as well as being a grad school professor. I have been in private practice since 2005 and have also worked with the Sheriff's Department and other non-profits.

My goals for you

I help each client determine their goals based on their values. I then assist in helping them meet those goals by identifying achievable small steps to help get them to their larger goals.

My first session with you

The first session would be an information-gathering session so I can better understand their current struggles and challenges. I typically then provide some initial psychoeducation on coping skills, relaxation techniques, and a self-care plan. We typically also set some initial goals for treatment.
