Hello! My name is Veronica, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Northern California. I have been practicing therapy for over 10 years and working in the field for over 15 years. I have experience with a diverse population, from different backgrounds and life experiences. I specialize in working with adolescents, individuals, couples, families, and co-parents. I help those who are struggling with anxiety, depression, life transitions, self-esteem issues, relationship issues, communication issues, and school issues, among other issues.
My approach
My approach is client-centered and strength-based. I work with a variety of therapeutic modalities based on the goals of each individual/couple/family. I have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) Solution Focused, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational interviewing, behavior modification, mindfulness and relaxation, and Gottman (for couples).
My focus
I specialize in working with individuals, couples, and families who are experiencing anxiety, depression, difficulties in relationships, and difficulty adjusting to major life transitions. Additionally, I have extensive experience working with parents and families who are in need of support managing behavioral issues with their children and teens. And work with parents who need support with co-parenting.
My communication style
My communication style is supportive, warm, direct, and light-hearted. I’m here to listen to you and your concerns and issues and to take a non-judgmental stance. I ask open-ended questions and provide feedback. My goal is to create a comfortable, authentic, collaborative environment.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always been interested in psychology, specifically in how the mind works and human interactions. I studied Psychology at California State University, Fresno, and went on to receive my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. I enjoy supporting individuals, families, and couples to gain insight into their own thoughts, and feelings and improve interactions with others. I truly appreciate the process and feel honored to be a part of this journey of self-growth.
My goals for you
I use a collaborative approach to creating goals. We will work together to identify your goals for therapy.
My first session with you
During our first session, we will get to know each other. I will start by introducing myself, explaining how therapy works, and answering any questions you have (especially if this is your first time). We will also review some important information (such as confidentiality, and scheduling). Then discuss the specific reasons why you are seeking therapy and begin to explore your goals. My goal is to make this first session as comfortable as possible.
