My name is Kim Gaul and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Northern California, providing telehealth services throughout the state. I work with adults of all ages who are experiencing depression, anxiety, insomnia, life transitions, new parenthood, grief, loss, communication challenges, and/or social challenges.
My approach
I use an integrative, trauma-informed, and humanistic approach, pulling from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and solution-focused brief therapy. Through a collaborative process, I will tailor treatment to fit your individual needs and support you in effectively reaching your goals.
My focus
I work with adults of all ages and support them with issues including depression, anxiety, insomnia, life transitions, new parenthood, grief, communication challenges, and social challenges. I have a perinatal mental health certification (PMH-C) and am passionate about supporting birthing and non-birthing parents through pregnancy, loss, role changes, and other unique challenges faced during pregnancy and postpartum. I am also trained in CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I), the leading approach for insomnia treatment.
My communication style
I create a warm, welcoming, and familiar space with a goal of prioritizing comfort and safety. I listen without judgment and am eager to understand your perspective and experiences so that we can effectively meet your goals.
My journey to mental healthcare
I found my way to a career in therapy by being a listener and helper from a young age. I find tremendous reward in supporting others with connecting to their strengths and overcoming obstacles in life.
My goals for you
Progress is best achieved when we focus on what matters most to you and changes that you want to make in the now. Together we will identify areas of change you feel ready to explore and progress in, identifying the small, manageable steps you can take to feel successful. We will work closely to understand what it might look like when you are making progress towards your goals, so that we can mark your accomplishments and celebrate the work you are putting in to making important changes in your life.
My first session with you
During our first session I will ask you questions to get a clear understanding of your goals for therapy, challenges you face, symptoms you are experiencing, and supports you have around you. I may ask you about any past experiences you have had with therapy or other forms of mental health treatment so as to understand what has been helpful or unhelpful for you in the past and how I can best support you at this time.
