Hi, I'm Justin Underwood. I am a licensed psychologist and I'm passionate about helping people define and live their best lives as they balance acceptance and change as it relates to themselves, their relationships, and their pursuits.
My approach
I am an existential-humanistic therapist helping people ask and answer the big questions in their lives. I am also trained in several evidence-based treatments like CBT and ACT to help target and change specific behaviors, such as improving sleep or changing habits.
My focus
I work with many clients who are going through changes in their lives, phases of their lives, relationships, and identity.
My communication style
I emphasize understanding before change and that takes listening intently. People I work with say that my communication is calming, even when discussing stressful events.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always been attuned to the distress and suffering of other people and have a desire to help find peace. I studied how some people maintain peace despite stressful situations and adopted strategies and philosophies that were conducive. Humanistic-existential literature and psychology helped me achieve my goals of living a life of contentment and I've striven to help others with those same tools.
My goals for you
Goal setting is always done collaboratively. I have knowledge and expertise in many areas but people are experts in themselves. My clients and I work together with our strengths to set goals.
My first session with you
Clients should be expecting to be understood while walking out with a plan of action to achieve the goals set forth.
