My name is Alyce Botwinick. I am an LCSW practicing in Telehealth in California. This platform allows me to work with clients anywhere in my state. I find using a Psychodynamic approach assists clients in exploring and identifying problematic behavior patterns as well as negativity biases. Offering practices based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindful Awareness allows my clients to learn strategies to better understand themselves, have healthier relationships, and become more resilient.
My approach
Combining techniques based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindful Awareness, and Relational Therapy I am able to provide the most effective treatment approach for each individual client, partner, and family member. My clients feel empowered with the courage to face their own suffering, and supported to write a new narrative. Some examples of what this may look like in a session are teaching clients to challenge their negative thoughts, helping them establish healthy boundaries, learning forgiveness, and self-compassion.
My focus
My clients have been my greatest teachers. My strength is in helping people identify the stories they have created that keep them stuck in patterns of negative thoughts and beliefs. I have had the most success helping people who are suffering from anxiety, fear, grief, and self-doubt. Learning to trust themselves, have patience, and forgiveness supports my clients' growth and confidence.
My communication style
I communicate in a style that is engaged, compassionate, and supportive. My clients have told me they feel safe and supported in our sessions. They feel comfortable sharing openly and honestly knowing I will not judge them.
My journey to mental healthcare
I love what I do! I have always been interested in learning about people and finding ways to build connections. Early on in my career, I worked in foster care and adoptions designing treatment plans and providing counseling and parent education. When I was raising my two daughters, I worked with individuals and families with special needs. I provided direct service and counseling, and taught skills for independent living. During the past 15 years I have been working in private practice, my dream job.
My goals for you
Prior to setting goals in therapy, it is important to establish rapport and trust. I enjoy helping my clients build internal resources to support them when they are working on their goals. I look forward to helping you find direction, purpose, and fulfillment in your life.
My first session with you
The first session is a time for us to get to know one another. I will invite you to share how things are going and what you would like to work on together. I will briefly tell you about my background and style of working with people. You are welcome to ask me any questions about myself or the therapeutic process. My hope is you will feel comfortable and supported in our sessions.
