I am Brett McGillivray, LCSW. In summary, I have been an LCSW since 2005, and have a variety of clinical and life experiences to meet you where you are, assess your needs, and create a treatment plan for you. I am empathic, direct, and supportive.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing as these modalities help me and the client develop a shared understanding of their current reality, and allow us to work together to build a path forward.
My focus
I work with a variety of clients, from teens through seniors. I can address problem solving, and creating tools to manage mood. Process issues in life and also address finding purpose in stage development.
My communication style
I create the tone and environment needed for that session. I have an easy open communication style creating rapport and safety. I can be direct when needing support through challenging issues. And I am embracing when needed. My focus is on your session.
My journey to mental healthcare
I am a sober man for some 30-plus years. From that, I began a journey of providing support and listening to others. Achieved my MSW from USC and engaged with a variety of populations. Focusing on adolescents in crisis, seniors finding purpose in life and in general, learning compassion about our human condition.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting will be a partner with you in your goals. Providing listening and feedback toward goals, but ultimately supporting what you want to achieve out of this work.
My first session with you
Our first session will be getting familiar with each other, and going over ground rules and expectations. Addressing necessary disclosures. And listening to what you want to create with therapy.
