My name is Dr. Cynthia Sahakian, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and I have been working in private practice for about 10 years. I have completed my degree in Depth Psychology with emphasis in Specialization in Integrative Therapy and Healing Practices.
My approach
I like to see the uniqueness of each client. I do not like to approach all clients with the same modality and therapeutic approach as each one has their own unique problems that they present and have to be helped. The different approaches that I use include but are not limited to Depth Psychology, Cognitive behavioral therapy, humanistic therapy, and psychodynamic therapy.
My focus
I typically work with adult individuals as well as couples and families. Individuals who are having relationship issues, anxiety, depression and just trying to find themselves in life.
My communication style
I create a very safe environment for my clients to be able to express themselves. I am compassionate and welcome all aspects of different emotions into my therapy room. Clients state that I am understanding and always feel better after a session because they feel heard.
My journey to mental healthcare
My multicultural background and experience drive me to understand the uniqueness of each client and support them towards their own personal journey. My passion and devotion are to help people with having deeper and fuller experiences in life while I provide compassion, empathy, and mindfulness.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting with clients by collaborating with them about what they want to work on, what their capabilities are, how we can achieve goals together and what portion of the work gets done during therapy sessions, and what they have to work on after sessions. I regularly check back to set new goals and recognize achievements.
My first session with you
The first session is always the hardest session, but this is also the best session. This is the time that a client is the bravest, they have just walked into a space with a stranger. I make that experience for them human, it is hard and I point it out, we will spend some time getting to know each other. I will answer all their questions and tell them what to expect from our sessions. I like to build a connection with the client starting the first session so we can have a safe therapeutic relationship.
