Susana Marroquin, LMFT 105624. I believe that therapy is not a "one size fits all" approach. It is a personalized care plan that will fit your particular needs.
My approach
I am trained in evidence-based methods but my approach is to look at the individual's strengths. I help them look for solutions rather than be stuck in problem mode. The most common theoretical approaches I use in my work are Solution Focused, CBT, Psychodynamic, and Narrative. I do use other approaches when needed depending on the individual I am working with and what best applies to them.
My focus
I typically work with young women, college students, Latinx women, and mothers. I also work with Latinx couples, older Latinx women, and adolescents. I work a lot with women's issues, maternal mental health, anxiety, depression, couples with poor communication, divorce, parenting, and young adult life transitions.
My communication style
A warm space free of judgment and criticism. I allow the client to go where they want and I am there for support. They are the expert in their story and I look for them to lead. If they need help with beginning I can be directive and guide them.
My journey to mental healthcare
My own personal struggles with anxiety during high school and my father's illness led me to seek my own therapy at a young age. The stigma about mental health in the Latino culture led me to seek mentorship and support outside of my home. Finding the right people taught me that I could do the same for others while also educating my community.
My goals for you
I formulate goals with the client during the assessment process. I help the client go from general goals to SMART goals by including their feedback and input.
My first session with you
Very informative session about who I am, my expertise, the legalities and confidentiality of therapy, my approach to therapy, and answering any questions they may have.
