My name is Diane Nanez and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Every individual has their own individual needs and own personal experiences in their life. We are all unique and my goal as a therapist is to take the journey with you to become your better self who feels empowered within their personal life and professional life. My approach is to help you develop awareness of how thoughts affect feelings and lead to actions; learn to develop healthy coping skills, create healthy boundaries, and address how past experiences can have an impact on present situations by utilizing a cognitive, and solution-focused approach.
My approach
I use a diverse approach of cognitive behavioral therapy, client-centered/humanistic, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused. Therapy is a means of creating a nurturing, safe place to do the work of bringing about healing. Compassion and genuine feedback are the cornerstone of my approach. Everyone goes through challenging situations in life and it takes courage to reach out and ask for support. I understand the decision to initiate therapy is a brave step.
My focus
I am most comfortable working with and providing support in navigating anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, and behaviors that are causing impairments at their work, school, or relationships within their relationships or in society.
My communication style
I incorporate unconditional positive regard, congruence, and empathy with each client. I offer a relaxed, safe, and compassionate environment.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to become a therapist did not come until later in life, after the loss of my brother. My brother struggled with addiction until his death. I was supported by my brother for many years until it began to impact my own mental health and my own marriage. In our family, we did not talk about mental health or addiction. I disengaged emotionally from my brother and after his death, I was left with heavy guilt. It was sometime later that I found out my brother was a victim of sexual abuse as an adolescent. I had no idea my brother was struggling alone with the trauma he endured. After his death, I wanted to help those individuals who struggle with their mental health silently and feel alone. It breaks my heart for anyone to feel they are alone and feel no one understands their own personal struggles. I want to have a positive impact on individuals I meet and make them feel at that moment they are not alone.
My goals for you
I follow the philosophy of walking side-by-side with clients as they go through the therapeutic journey of self-discovery rather than leading or following. My goal is to take the journey with my clients.
My first session with you
My first session with client is to assess and collaboratively work on short-term and long-term goals of the client that will help bring about change and cultivate the opportunity for healing and growth. Finding the right fit and the right therapist is a very personal decision. I want you to feel comfortable in your decision to continue working with me on your therapeutic path.
