My name is Dr. Audrey Hill-Lindsay and I am a licensed Psychologist in California (License #PSY22270), as well as New York License #020483). I believe that therapy is a healing journey that can help to build strength, discover peace, and achieve more equilibrium in one's life. Each person must find their own unique path based on their goals, desires, and past experiences. I work with a wide array of diagnoses, including mood & anxiety disorders, trauma, life changes, cognitive & memory problems, addiction & substance abuse.
My approach
I work from a primarily Humanistic perspective, utilizing aspects of Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavior therapies. As my focus in graduate school was in Health Psychology, I generally include any health conditions & medications in my treatment plans, along with biofeedback, relaxation techniques, and other ways to improve coping skills. I am happy to coordinate care with any other members of treatment teams as needed and have worked with many clients transitioning out of Partial (PHP) or Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programs.
My focus
I have worked with clients of all ages, including young professionals and geriatric populations, as well as clients with varying degrees of physical health conditions, such as autoimmune disorders, chronic pain, women's health issues, and cancer. Working to balance treating physical and mental health conditions together is a strong focus of mine.
My communication style
I tend to communicate very openly and directly but in a very calm and empathetic manner. I am quite patient but I do keep our focus on achieving goals and developing coping skills along with gaining insight. Most of my clients would likely say I have a warm demeanor and am very supportive.
My journey to mental healthcare
I studied biopsychology and biochemistry in college with plans to head to medical school but stumbled into the field of clinical psychology as I wanted to focus on behavior and how to ultimately help people understand and gain better control over their own. I focused on health psychology and many of my internships and private practice clients have also had health concerns that also have required attention while managing their mental health. I enjoy teaching and supervising interns as well with hopes of inspiring and guiding the next generation of therapists with the ever-growing need for more of us in this world.
My goals for you
I like to work with clients in initially identifying achievable goals and then building upon them to continually improve and progress in treatment.
My first session with you
During the first session, I like to gather information from all aspects of a client's life in order to build a full profile of who they are and what they are seeking in therapy and based upon this we will work together on setting some basic goals. I also like to take the first session as a time to get to know each other and see if we are a good fit to work together, so feel free to bring questions for me that will help you assess the goodness of that fit for you as well.
