My name is Jeffrey Stambook and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in California. I work with clients from a variety of backgrounds. I specialize in helping people with depression using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
My approach
My approach to therapy may vary according to the needs of my clients. Although I typically use a Cognitive Behavioral framework I must tailor treatment to best meet the needs of those who I am working with.
My focus
Recently I have been working primarily with individual adults although I have experience working with a wide variety of clients. I feel like I can be helpful to adolescents as long as they are comfortable with me. I understand depression well and for that reason believe that I am equipped to be helpful for those who are struggling with their mood. I also enjoy helping people during times of transition, and periods of loss and although I am not currently working with couples I also feel competent in sharing information that can be useful to those who are struggling in relationships.
My communication style
People have often described me as very calming. I hope that my clients will find that I am an excellent listener who is supportive and encouraging.
My journey to mental healthcare
After getting a bachelor's degree in Psychology I found a job working in community mental health. I loved the opportunity to sit with people individually and really get to know them. I have now worked in mental health for more than 20 years. I still thank each and every client for trusting me enough to share a part of their story with me.
My goals for you
Usually during a first meeting, I will talk to a client about their reason for coming to therapy. Over the next few meetings, we will work together to identify goals.
My first session with you
The first session is a time to get to know one another and clarify where we will be going next. During a first meeting, I will ask basic questions and provide an opportunity for the client to ask questions of me.
