My name is Lin Stephens and I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, working in the field of Mental/Behavioral Health, since 1995. I have worked in county and state agencies along with being a Private Practitioner since 2002.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is problem-oriented, and solution-focused. My general approach in therapy is to help you understand and work through your struggles, provide support, validation, and encouragement while helping you enhance your own ability to cope and problem-solve. Overall, I work with my clients toward identifying obstacles to their success while helping them facilitate more effective skills.
My focus
I enjoy working with adults and/or couples. My experience has been working with individuals who may experience depression, anxiety, life stress, relational difficulties, transitional issues, and/or unresolved childhood or past traumas.
My communication style
I work toward providing a safe and nurturing environment for communication. I am very open-minded and accepting of life choices and circumstances. I am a good listener and willing to provide feedback.
My journey to mental healthcare
I started my academic career as a nursing student. I soon realized my favorite rotation was on the psychiatric unit. I enjoy talking with people and helping them recognize how the events of their past may have contributed to their situation today. I enjoy working with people to empower their personal strengths for self-improvement.
My goals for you
In treatment, I am most interested in focusing on and promoting the goals my clients have identified for themselves. I will help my clients manage their goals into reasonable expectations while addressing any obstacles that may arise toward their goal completion.
My first session with you
Generally, the first session is the opportunity for you to get to know me and for me to get to know you. Therefore, the initial session is typically focused on assessment, information gathering, and rapport development. I may ask a lot of questions, but I also welcome any questions you may have. Those aforementioned tasks may continue for the next few sessions, as needed.
