Deborah Tarrson, LMFT. I provide a gentle caring presence and am skilled at reflective listening, which allows the client to feel seen, heard, and understood. I build rapport to create a safe and trusting environment for the client to access and express their feelings, emotions, and deepest truth. I use a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Person-Centered Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Somatic interventions, and Mindfulness. I am familiar with Trauma-informed therapy interventions.
My approach
I meet the client wherever they are emotionally with unconditional positive regard to help facilitate the changes, growth, and healing they seek. I use a collaborative approach to help clients discover the strategies and solutions that best support them in fulfilling their own potential.
My focus
I have experience working with adults with depression, anxiety, trauma, self-esteem issues, and relationship issues, and am comfortable working with all of these conditions. I have worked with elementary school students ages 5 through 11 years old in a school setting. I was a preschool and elementary school teacher for many years before becoming a therapist. I very much enjoy working with children.
My communication style
I am gentle, kind, and empathetic. I set a gentle, kind, and patient tone during all of my sessions. I use Marshall Rosenberg Non-violent communication and help my clients learn to use that communication style when appropriate.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have been drawn to psychology since my first psychology class in college. I became a teacher because I had experience working with children. I worked with an amazing Psychologist who ran the preschool where I worked, which had a huge influence on my life. After I sought out counseling for my own childhood and adult traumas And got the help I needed to overcome my personal issues, I felt very drawn to being a therapist and enrolled in a Masters in Counseling Psychology program. I love helping others heal, to reach their maximum potential.
My goals for you
I discuss needs, wants, and feelings with clients to work with them on setting appropriate treatment goals.
My first session with you
I will greet clients with warm unconditional positive regard to establish rapport and create a safe therapeutic environment. I will ask questions about their history, who they are, and why they are choosing to seek therapy at this time. I will provide empathic reflective listening so they feel seen and heard.
