My name is Marylou Escoto. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Fresno, California. I work with clients state-wide via telehealth and/or in-person sessions. I work with pre-teens, adolescents, young adults, adults, and couples. I specialize in anxiety, depression, life adjustment struggles, stress, pre-postpartum mood, and trauma disorders.
My approach
My therapeutic approach varies based on client's needs. I commonly use Client-Centered, Rogerian, Cognitive Behavioral, and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy. These modalities allow me to understand individualized needs and struggles; and to support clients in building wellness, confidence, and life satisfaction, together.
My focus
I have noticed that my style and approach are a good fit with pre-teens, adolescents, young adults, adults, and couples dealing with life stressors, life transitions, and social pressures. I work to help clients understand patterns, learn about emotions informing behaviors, and build helpful skills to create changes aligned with life goals for overall wellness.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, friendly, and respectful. I want my clients to feel comfortable, heard, and supported when talking about anything. I take pride in my ability to balance humility and professionalism when listening and helping clients. I offer my full attention to you through active listening and skills-building dialogue in a safe space that is judgment-free.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided to become a therapist after I acknowledged my natural pattern of helping others feel better about themselves. This developed into a passion, over the years in personal life, while in school, and through job experiences. Beginning with mentoring children in elementary schools, residential work in group homes, behavior coaching children in the system, then becoming a therapist to pre and postpartum women, doing individual/family/couples/group work during college and postmaster’s degree. I love helping to make this world happier, one person/family at a time.
My goals for you
Goal setting is an opportunity to identify the outcome of our work together. This can take time through trust building, self-exploration, understanding, realistic self-expectations, and flexibility.
My first session with you
For the first session, you can expect us to get to know one another. Mainly, I ask questions about what brings you to therapy, I ask about life experience, and what you hope to get out of our therapeutic work together. By the end of our first session, I hope you feel comfortable, trusting, motivated, and hopeful of the positive progress you can achieve during our work together.
