My approach
I utilize a Cognitive-Behavioral framework in therapy which is infused with Humanistic, Eastern, and Existential metaphors and stories to provide a caring, direct, and thoughtful approach. I am also Trauma-Informed and understand that by using both written and verbal activities I provide a pathway to a sensitive and meaningful understanding of this lived experience.
My focus
I typically work with clients burdened with anxiety and depression and in cases of trauma. I also work with individuals who experience relational problems, anger management difficulty managing strong emotions, and addictions, especially pornography.
My communication style
I seek engagement and compatibility with my clients. I recognize that therapy can be anxiety-producing and (at times) stressful when talking about oneself so emphasize and strive to create a more informal and relaxed collegial approach
My journey to mental healthcare
I was the classical 'good listener' in my friendship crowd. Completing my education in Social Work and Human Services I began my therapeutic work with disabled children living in a State Hospital. In the course of my education and almost 45 years of providing therapy from varied professional positions I remain deeply committed to the care and welfare of my clients.
My goals for you
Goal setting with clients is a collaborative process, and small steps lead to bigger achievements. As a therapist, I support client's decisions and work with them to find the possible best solution FOR their concerns.
My first session with you
I strive to be informal and personable offering basic information about the therapeutic process in a relaxed atmosphere. I ask about their likes dislikes and interests and share a bit of my own to build collaboration. I believe I can empathize with clients as our lives are more alike than dis-alike in terms of our emotions and experiences.
