Hello, my name is Emily Ropes. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who is passionate about supporting individuals navigate through life’s challenges while engaging their own self-determination and instilling hope.
My approach
My approach is strength-based and client-centered and varies based on each client’s individual needs. It is my belief that we are experts in our own lives and therapy can engage us in discovering our own strengths and guide us toward healing. I also understand the way our environment impacts our lives. I utilize a variety of modalities including Cognitive Behavioral, and Dialectic Behavioral Therapies to engage clients in their therapy journey.
My focus
My therapy approach has been effective in working with adolescents, young and middle age adults, as well as older adults who may be dealing with the challenges of life transitions and social pressures. Individuals in the midst of these life circumstances may be experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, grief and loss, or trauma-related issues. I work with my clients to process difficult emotions and develop coping skills for successfully navigating these life transitions.
My communication style
I have a communication style that welcomes vulnerability, honesty, and emotion. I consider my communication to be calm and personable. My goal is to provide a safe space where my clients feel comfortable talking about what they need to; free of judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
My decision to become a therapist was a very intentional and thought-out plan accompanied by both personal and professional life experiences. I have worked with individuals in various social, medical, and mental health settings throughout my career as a social worker leading up to practicing psychotherapy; all of which involved providing support to individuals and families during their most vulnerable times. I enjoy working alongside people to overcome diversity and work toward becoming their most authentic selves.
My goals for you
Since therapy is unique from person to person, it is important for me to understand the needs and pace of each client. Motivational Interviewing is a tool that allows me to meet the client where they are at, engage their own motivation and determination for change. I work with my clients to establish realistic goals to increase the likelihood of successful therapy outcomes.
My first session with you
An initial therapy session involves getting to know each other, the reason you are seeking therapy, and how I may be able to provide support. The initial session includes a biopsychosocial assessment which allows me to understand how your life experiences, social and health history may be impacting you. We are then able to collaboratively establish a therapy treatment plan. Remember, you are the expert here and through this process, we are able to form a partnership setting the stage for successful ongoing therapy.
