John W Brown, LCSW, 69088. I believe that people already possess the innate wisdom to manage life's many challenges. My role is to help you tap back into your own inner wisdom to move through challenges and thrive.
My approach
I utilize techniques from several modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Problem Solving techniques, and Supportive Therapy.
My focus
In my current practice, I see individuals dealing with multiple issues including managing a devastating cancer diagnosis, role loss and difficult life transitions, and issues relating to sexual identity. I have several years of experience working in oncology, HIV/AIDS, and with members of the LGBTQ community.
My communication style
I believe that individuals must be truly comfortable in order to forge a strong therapeutic relationship. My approach is to foster this by creating a warm, relaxed and structured environment to facilitate healing.
My journey to mental healthcare
I believe that we all get stuck sometimes and can benefit from a fresh perspective. As a therapist, I am most excited when I help facilitate an "aha" moment with a client. These moments of clarity are often enough to move the client from their previously immobilized state and may also provide them valuable personal insights.
My goals for you
Early in treatment, I work collaboratively with clients to identify the underlying cause of their distress and we set goals to address this. I believe goals should also be flexible as therapy isn't always a straight line to health.
My first session with you
This is your chance to let me know who you are and why you are seeking help. I will answer any questions you might have about myself and my background so that you may determine whether or not we are a good fit to tackle the work ahead.
