Welcome, Devida Crawford here! I am dual licensed in Ohio as an LISW and in California as an LCSW. My approach to therapy has always been a very humanistic approach when working with individuals. I am very passionate about working with youth, teens, and young adults. I want to create a space where my clients feel heard, seen, and validated.
My approach
I work from a humanistic approach, while also drawing from CBT, TF-CBT, Humanistic Therapy, Acceptance and commitment therapy, Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, DBT, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.
My focus
My client focus is mostly on kids ages 12 - 18 and young adults. I also provide and I am well versed in Trauma Focused Therapy and CBT. I am very comfortable working with individuals struggling to manage anxiety, depression, PTSD, school, work, and peer stressors. I have experience working with individuals struggling to manage work/life/balance.
My communication style
I am very down to earth and relatable have been told that I connect well with individuals and I have a very comforting, validating approach. Working with me will be person-centered, w/o judgment, collaborative, validating, and supportive. I am a very good active listener.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have been in this feel of work for over 20+ years, starting out on the ground doing community work. I have taught single moms with infants and toddlers, mentored at Boys and Girls Club, worked in nursing facilities, psychiatric hospitals, recreation centers, hospitals, ER and I have been in leadership as well. But the one thing that draws me and is the most fulfilling is connecting with people, true human interaction, and the ability to engage and play a role in someone's journey.
My goals for you
Goal setting to me is very client-driven, supported, measurable, and collaborative between the client & therapist. It's also good to understand that goals can be changed and adjusted as you navigate your journey along the way.
My first session with you
Your first session with me will be getting to know you as well as you getting to know me. It can be hard to tell all your truths to someone you just met. I want you to feel comfortable, heard, and seen during the initial session. I will walk alongside side you on your journey to healing. You have all the tools you need inside of you, we just have to pull them out.
