My name is Katharina Kienboeck, I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I believe therapy can be an incredibly valuable space to find clarity, hope, and support when we need it most. Good conversations help us identify what our values are, our strengths, what old stories we carry that do not serve us anymore, and what tools we can access and utilize towards the changes we are seeking. As a Narrative Therapist, I help create conversations that bring ease, strengths, and resources to the foreground, supporting the journey with warmth. I work with clients who experience difficulty with life transitions, depression, grief, anxiety, job stressors or struggle with significant relationships.
My approach
I am a Narrative and solution-focused therapist by training. I use mindfulness and neuropsychology tools to address emotional reactivity that might get in the way of how and who we would like to be in the world. I also believe in the power of nature and spirituality as a path to wholeness that serves us collectively and individually.
My focus
I work with people with anxiety and/or depression, people who are in life transitions, who feel stuck in relationship patterns, and people working through uprooting racism.
My communication style
You will find our conversations encourage acts of self-care as much as moments of laughter. I will be gently supporting you in your therapy goals through clarifying questions, attentive listening, as well as offering learning tools and skills to a new path.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always loved being present for conversations that invite reflection, presence, and transformation. I find healing can happen when we feel seen, when we allow for space to reflect on what really matters, and when we slow down enough to take care of ourselves. Taking care of ourselves will allow us to be more present for what our community around us and the world needs of us. As a white, cis-gender, straight, antiracist, and social justice-oriented therapist, I find it also helpful to invite conversations that explore how social structures around race, gender, and class limit us. I am continuously supporting and participating in the ‘cultures of change’ Resmaa Menakem writes about, to build the world we all want to live in.
My goals for you
I find goal setting a very important part of therapy--clarifying what is important, how we would actually know when you have achieved a goal, and continually checking whether we are still on track with what is important to talk about.
My first session with you
The first session will allow us to learn about what matters at this point in your life, what brought you in, and how we might move forward together. It is also a time when you can ask questions about me and find out whether we are a good fit.
