Hi there, I'm Sierra!

Nice to meet you! My name is Sierra Voss LMFT, I have been providing therapy to all ages for over 10 years. Since working in the field it has only confirmed my passion for the work, I take great pride in helping others and am enthusiastic about getting to know who my clients are, not just what they are going through. I am dedicated to continuing to grow as a provider and a person.

My approach

When providing therapy my style is eclectic, meaning I use many different theoretical approaches. Most sessions will be a combination of two or three different styles. My focus is on identifying solutions and strengths to help improve the management of emotional stresses. One of the necessities of treatment I provide is being open and relatable, we are equals in this world but I might have more training in different areas than you. I never want my clients to feel that they are judged or unwelcome. I enjoy meeting clients where they are with unconditional positive regard and hope. EMDR, trauma-focused, solution-focused, DBT, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and attachment therapy are the approaches I use most often. I also have developed a 10-chapter workbook called Holding Hope to address specific symptoms related to depression and anxiety, but topics are helpful for all types of symptoms.

My focus

At this time I am working with adults (18+) and only in an individual capacity. I have experience working in case management as well as therapy so I have knowledge about community or referral services that may supplement therapy to improve effectiveness. Some clients feel there are expectations or pressures to have the therapist tell you what to do, or just listen to venting. While these both are parts of therapy my focus is on connection and collaboration, are you comfortable and what are we working on? I am motivated toward forward motion in treatment to support accomplishing goals and building strengths. In the past, I have worked with ages 4 months to 68 years old, with mild to severe mental health disorders both in the community and in clinic or inpatient settings.

My communication style

My style is very casual but direct, I am relatable and open with my clients about what I notice. I like to use assessment tools or quizzes to help clients learn about themselves thereby improving their ability to understand adversity and how to prevent it. I am nonjudgmental, I can't imagine an issue I have not worked with and my approach is always from a place of compassion. I encourage my clients to speak up if they have a different opinion so that treatment can be customized for their preferences. While therapy is often difficult or emotional I like to leave clients with a positive feeling and sense of control over their lives between sessions. In my opinion, I am employed by the client and they are the leader, my role is to help guide the way.

My journey to mental healthcare

My initial career path was business, I earned my Bachelor and began in the field. I found I was not interested in building the bottom line and always gravitated towards compassionate support to my employees and team. My grandmother had always told me I was such a good listener growing up. I decided since I liked listening and helping others get through things I decided to return to school where I earned my Masters in therapy. This has been the best decision I have ever made and I have not looked back. I have worked in case management, individual therapy for all ages, and the development of a social rehabilitation group provided in a previous clinic position. My passion is to help others sort through the tangled web that is life to provide them with better outcomes and life satisfaction. Now that I have been in the field I could never imagine doing anything else!

My goals for you

Setting goals is an essential aspect of treatment, goals will be used to measure progress and design a clear path for treatment. I often use the Stages of Change to help clients identify goals that are realistic for their current functioning. Once improvements are made goals are adjusted to show accomplishment and identify if there are other issues to address. I often check in with my clients about outcome measures and progress towards goals to identify if there are areas that need change. Goals should always be defined, specific, and with a timeline in mind.

My first session with you

During the first session, we will complete the intake assessment and get to know each other. The assessment asks questions all about your life and what is bringing you to treatment. During that session, I also give clients the opportunity to ask any questions they might have about myself or the therapy process, by the end of the session I would like you to have any information you need to decide if you are comfortable moving forward. Towards the end of the session, we will come up with a treatment plan that addresses the symptoms and impairments that you describe. Goals will be developed together and you will have an idea of the direction of treatment to meet your expectations.
