My name is Faith Gallup, LCSW, and I have over 25 years of experience helping people. With the heart of a teacher, I like to teach coping skills by using drawings and diagrams. Focusing mostly on individual adults, I know I can help you understand some of your experiences and mental health issues. Let's talk.
My approach
I use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) very frequently in my practice. Trauma-informed therapy is a part of my everyday work with people.
My focus
Individual adults are my primary focus. I am very comfortable treating people with Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar, Borderline Personality Disorder, and more. As a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ, I am comfortable offering prayer and scripture within our sessions, if you desire that.
My communication style
It probably feels like being a student, since I have the heart of a teacher. I may ask you to draw some (very simple) diagrams, copying my own, while I describe or explain a mental health concept that pertains to your specific experiences. I may give you some homework if you're willing to do it. With plenty of time for listening, I have a semi-structured approach to therapy sessions, based on DBT. Each session will start with a short (5-minute) mindfulness activity, then checking in on your week or recent events. Then I may offer some ideas or suggestions. We end the session with final thoughts, and questions and I might suggest some homework.
My journey to mental healthcare
As a therapy client in my early 20s, I quickly understood the value of sitting with a professional. It changed my life! I always knew I wanted to help people, and pursued my Master's in Social Work so that I could do just that. I feel like God is using me to support and teach people more about their mind, their emotions, and behaviors. I love the "Aha!" moment when my clients understand their own experiences and patterns. With loads of grace, I point out your successes and progress. We are all on a journey together.
My goals for you
Collaboratively, we will set treatment goals within the first 2-3 sessions.
My first session with you
The first session is NOT therapy. It is a time for me to review Confidentiality, HIPAA, and Safety concerns and I will ask you many questions to get an overview of your life and mental health concerns. You can ask me any questions, at the first and every session. There is no such thing as a stupid question since I value your success and progress.
