Hello! I am Taryn Witkowski, LCSW. I work with youth ages 5-18 experiencing mental health and behavioral struggles. I also work closely with each client's family to ensure improvement beyond the therapy space. I strive to be a therapist that is dependable, trustworthy, friendly, and fun. Note: I'm only accepting new patients 5-17 years old. Please do not schedule with me if you are >17 years old.
My approach
Much of my work is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with art, play, and mindfulness incorporated. I also focus on skill-building with clients which includes understanding emotions, appropriate communication/behavior, and coping strategies. I have training and experience in modalities including Motivational Interviewing, Problem Solving Therapy, Applied Behavioral Analysis, Crisis Intervention, Solution Focused Therapy, and Restorative Practices.
My focus
For more than a decade my clinical focus has been youth and their families. I am most experienced working with those diagnosed with anxiety, depression, stress/adjustment disorders, and disruptive/impulse-control/conduct disorders. I have extensive experience with children in inpatient facilities, group homes, special education programs, and justice-involved youth.
My communication style
I strive to create a casual and comfortable environment. I'd like to think of my approach as talking to a trusted friend with a professional edge. Therapy should be a fun and positive experience for the client and their family! I know it takes courage to open up to someone new. I am happy to be a listening ear and guide for my clients.
My journey to mental healthcare
Since the age of 14, I have been passionate about the behavioral health field. My education and experience in social work have confirmed and nurtured that passion. I truly believe that everyone has the power and potential to overcome challenges and take back control of their thoughts, feelings, and actions. My fulfillment comes from watching clients accomplish goals, overcome adversity, and grow into a version of themselves they once saw as impossible!
My goals for you
It is my job to work with the client to specify goals that are practical, relevant, and achievable in a timely fashion. I honor what the client wants for themselves, as well as listen to input from families.
My first session with you
Did you know that the most important part of therapy is the relationship built between client and therapist? Forming a genuine connection, having compatible personalities, building trust, and mutual understanding is what I strive to have with all clients. During the first session, I like to learn about the client, what they would like out of therapy, and help them feel heard and supported.
