Roger Grossman, LMFT CA License 98803 I'm a Marriage and Family Therapist (or Couples Counselor), licensed by the State of California (LMFT License 98803). I am certified by the State of California as a Substance Abuse Counselor through the following accrediting agencies: National Certification Commission for Addiction Professionals California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals California Association of DUI Treatment Programs I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the New York University, and received my Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy With Distinction from Mercy College.
My approach
It is your therapy and you are the one who sets the topic, the pace, and the course. You decide what you are willing to reveal and when you are ready to reveal it. It is up to me to respect you for the strength you show in seeking help and to make you comfortable during our session. Clients come to me with problems they typically have been dealing with for years --sometimes their whole lives. They know that I will listen to them, and that they will be heard. I promise to help you achieve growth, overcome barriers to happiness, work for a better life with your family, and come closer to attaining your full potential.
My focus
Why do my clients come to me? Because they have suffered trauma and can't get over it Because they constantly feel like they're 'not enough' Because they have felt apart from their spouse/fiancé/partner Because they have exhausted all other options for getting relief from ongoing stress, depression, or other feelings of discomfort. Because if something doesn't change soon they are ready to get a divorce Because they just got their third DUI and will lose their driver's license and may do three months in jail.
My communication style
I AM NOT THE SMILE-AND-NOD THERAPIST. I roll up my sleeves and get in there with you.
My journey to mental healthcare
Choosing to become a therapist was inspired by my own journey and life experiences. It represents the culmination of all I have learned. This is the work that I feel I was meant to do. I find great joy and meaning in helping my clients gain insight and awareness, access their innate strengths and resources, and develop the skills and confidence to create a more fulfilling and balanced life. I am enthusiastic and passionate about my work. I see how these techniques can change people's lives. I've learned the best way to make the world a better place is to work with one person at a time.
