I have been in practice for over 20 years. My goal is to help people explore their past as a way of providing information that will help us create new possibilities in their lives going forward. The past does not have to define you, your actions, dreams, and hopes will move you forward on your journey.
My approach
I am eclectic utilizing many modalities. I utilize CBT, IFS, Therapeutic Tapping for anxiety, EMDR, and supportive and empowering treatment modalities. One of my goals is not to create blame but to open up to self-compassion as a way to move forward.
My focus
My ideal client is ready to do the work. Therapy takes a commitment to be vulnerable, open, and curious about oneself. I want the client to be interested in their journey, curious about their capabilities, and help them to understand that things are often not personal. It is important to own your behaviors and not take on the behaviors of others as your own. Once you understand that others' behaviors belong to them and your behaviors belong to you, you are free to live your life with self-acceptance and compassion.
My communication style
I have a supportive, curious, soft, and funny style. Humor is healing, and being able to laugh is often helpful. I listen not only to what you say but how you express it. I am looking at your movements, your eyes seeking additional information about what might be going on internally for you.
My journey to mental healthcare
I am the youngest of 5, and my role in the family was the mediator. I learned early on to be successful, you have to create a win-win situation. I have always been interested in people, their situations, and their resilience. I have watched people lose everything and rebuild stronger. I believe in the inner spirit, in hopes and dreams. I love being a part of the journey and watching people take loving control of their lives. Educated in NY at Adelphi University, have EMDR and CBT certifications, Therapeutic Tapping, Reiki Master, and Spirituality training.
My goals for you
My therapeutic goals vary with each client. Some people have not been listened to their whole lives and need a supportive ear. Some need direction and a new skill set, while others need a new path to follow, and some need to be vulnerable in a safe space. My goal is to provide my clients with what they need. Progress looks like they are living their life more fully and creating new possibilities for themselves.
My first session with you
The getting to know you session is about finding out who you are, how you got here, and where you want to go. Unfortunately, paperwork has to be completed, and sometimes the questions can be annoying and possibly intrusive for the first meeting. I am aware of this as being a difficult process, and I always keep that in mind. The questions asked often do not take into consideration the triggering of memories. We are a team, and together we will keep that in mind and work on an appropriate treatment plan that is both flexible and changeable.
