My name is Shawn Marie Briggs, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). My education includes a Masters in Social Work from the University of Southern California (USC). Through my education and experience, I have developed expertise in cultural diversity and the ability to provide clients with guidance through life's most difficult challenges.
My approach
One of the most wonderful parts of my work is having the ability to meet clients where they are at and helping them to explore methods of coping that would best suit their individual needs. I work with adults, teenagers, children as well as couples and families. approach to therapy is client-centered, strength-based, solution-focused therapy. My skills include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Conflict Resolution, and Family systems therapy. Faith-based counseling is available.
My focus
I specialize in trauma resolution, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) anxiety, depressive disorders, including postpartum depression, and autism spectrum disorder. I work with families to strengthen relations and couples to bring healing and restoration. I believe in helping my clients discover their strengths and empower them to reach their goals.
My communication style
My approach provides a calm, non-judgmental, and compassionate environment. My hope is to build strong client/clinician rapport as the client gains insight and coping strategies. My strong faith and belief in client-driven therapy enables me to be compassionate as well as provide guidance and support to my clients.
My journey to mental healthcare
After 20 years in the medical field providing patient care in an outpatient setting my career took me into case management. I enjoyed this level of helping others and decided to return to school to obtain my bachelor's in human services. During this time I became aware of Licensed Clinical Social Workers and their work due to both of my grandfathers enduring illnesses that required them to need Hospice Care before their passing. As I began my graduate journey I quickly felt the desire and calling to be a therapist. What began as a dream to finish school, obtain my license, and go into private practice has become my reality. I am grateful for all those who have helped me along the way. I can only hope I can make a difference in the lives I touch.
My goals for you
Client-driven goal setting is my approach for clients. "What are you seeking, looking to, and wanting out of therapy"? And then establishing how I can best assist you in reaching said goal(s).
My first session with you
Therapy begins with a thorough assessment. This includes who you are, why are you seeking therapy, your background, and upbringing, family history, substance use/abuse, prior mental health treatment, reviewing demographics, and submitted forms.
