My name is Seth Senecal, a licensed Clinical Psychologist. I am located in San Diego, CA, and am able to work remotely with individuals throughout the state. I have experience working with older children, adolescents, and adults of all ages, and with a wide variety of struggles, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, ASD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, chronic pain, EDs, body dysmorphia/dysphoria, concerns with gender/sexual identity, abuse, PTSD, and others. While I tend to approach things from a Cognitive-Behavioral framework, I draw upon many different approaches and techniques to aid clients in learning about, understanding, and accepting themselves and their challenges, in order to build upon their strengths and develop skills, mindsets, etc. to improve quality of life.
My approach
I believe that one of the most powerful things we can strive for is understanding; the more we understand, the more we become aware of our options and power, and my approaches center around this goal. I prefer to tailor my approach to the needs of the individual and strive to collaborate with clients to develop methods, styles, goals, etc., that feel comfortable and meaningful to them. This can include CBT and related methods, strengths-based approaches, Motivational Interviewing, Socratic questioning, experiential methods, Acceptance, assertiveness training, Mindfulness, learning about and challenging core beliefs, and more. I am a firm believer in the importance of establishing a strong therapeutic alliance, and providing total support and acceptance to help the individual feel safe, heard, and understood.
My focus
I have considerable experience working with adults of all ages, adolescents, children ages approximately 8 and onward. I work a great deal with conditions including depression, anxiety, stress, abuse, ADHD, and "high-functioning" ASD. I am also comfortable working with other struggles, such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, sexual health issues (including vaginismus, "performance anxiety," etc.) eating disorders, PTSD, concerns with sexual and gender identity, body dysmorphia/dysphoria, substance abuse (although not as the primary focus of treatment,) and others.
My communication style
I truly enjoy my work, and this tends to come across in my voice and demeanor. I tend to be somewhat energetic and upbeat, but will absolutely adjust myself to meet the needs of the moment: Comfort, support, nurturing, encouragement, humor, and silence all have a place. Therapy can be a challenge, and my hope is for everyone to feel that they have a strong ally in their journey.
