My name is Megan Elliott and I am an LMFT. I believe therapy is most successful when a healthy alliance is formed between the therapist and the client. My goal is to create a safe space for the client to bring whatever is most pressing for them and to support them with creating tools to manage the challenges and stressors they may be experiencing. I am trauma-focused in my training, as well as experience with anxiety/panic, and depression.
My approach
I incorporate psychodynamic, client-centered, some DBT, and mindfulness-based approaches.
My focus
I work primarily with people who have symptoms/issues related to trauma, ranging from anxiety and depression to substance use, to thought and mood disorders.
My communication style
I work to create a calm environment that allows the client to regulate their nervous system so that they can move from a place of safety, authenticity, and joy.
My journey to mental healthcare
What attracted me and what drives me are the same, to create spaces where people feel safe, secure, supported, seen, and heard so that they can go out and create that for others in their lives.
My goals for you
The client is in charge of their goals and the pace at which we move. However, as I believe in setting people up for success, I do guide clients in creating realistic goals and timelines, and in breaking them down into manageable steps, often utilizing visual aids to aid in seeing results.
My first session with you
I will want to know what they are hoping to achieve in working together, any past experiences in therapy, what worked or did not work, and a brief biopsychosocial history, what, if any, symptoms they are experiencing and the frequency and duration, and to answer any questions they may have.
