My name is Nikki Barrett and I am a licensed clinical social worker. I believe that everyone is trying to do the best they can with what they have in their own ways, but at times are in need of some extra support, accountability, and a safe space to work through their challenges. As such, I am not here to dictate or task, but to collaboratively explore how clients can empower themselves.
My approach
I believe therapy is not just about learning strategies, solutions and techniques to address challenges, but also about understanding what has led to the challenges in the first place. Each person has unique life experiences, and thus a unique lens through which they view and respond to the world around them. By better understanding the who, what, when, where and why, we are then all the more equipped to identify the most effective "how" in terms of solutions.
My focus
It is my privilege to support adults of all ages across all life stages who are working through anxiety, depression, general life stressors and challenging life transitions. I am especially passionate about supporting older adults and their caregivers navigate the unique physical and psychological challenges of aging and related life transitions.
My communication style
I believe the therapeutic relationship must be grounded in authenticity and mutual respect. I ground myself in compassion and empathy, while respecting my patients enough to pose the hard and necessary questions for activating the change they desire.
