Hi there, I'm Tara!

My name is Tara Maazel and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) working with clients in California via Telehealth. I work with adults and older adults who have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, chronic health issues, and/or pain. I utilize an integrative approach drawing from my training in IFS, EMDR, CBT, and Somatic Art therapy. I offer concrete tools and skills to help you navigate your way toward a more vibrant and purposeful life.

My approach

The default state of nature is always geared towards healing. And therefore, so is yours. I believe in every person’s innate ability to heal, and I strive to support you in cultivating and listening to your inner wisdom to move through your challenges. I combine somatic, cognitive, and arts-based modalities to tailor therapy to your specific needs. I am also trained in EMDR, and Internal Family Systems (IFS), and certified in CBT and Social-Emotional Arts.

My focus

I specialize in working with adults to understand and heal the trauma that often surrounds chronic health conditions. I also work with folks who experience anxiety, depression, or mood disorders. Trauma can alter our nervous systems, sometimes to the point where you can feel alienated in your own body. We will practice strategies to communicate with your nervous system and help you feel more connected and embodied. Sometimes self-limiting beliefs can keep us repeating the same cycles inadvertently. We will work collaboratively towards unraveling old patterns and unproductive loops that may be keeping you feeling stuck.

My communication style

I respect the courage it takes to be vulnerable and seek support. I hope to create a warm, authentic, and empowering environment for you to express yourself freely and achieve your goals. I also acknowledge the fact that we do not develop in a vacuum, so I invite exploration of the socio-cultural and historical contexts that have informed the multidimensional person you are.

My first session with you

The first session is about us building an initial connection and helping me gain a deeper understanding of what brings you to therapy and what you would like to accomplish. I will ask questions to engage you in an initial assessment so that we have a thorough understanding of the challenges you're experiencing as well as your strengths, resources, and relevant history. From there, we will collaborate to set some concrete goals so that we can track your progress and create a focus for our work together.
